Software

About everything I was gonna say last week re: Adobe's buying Macromedia is better written here at Mezzoblue.

What Do I Know is a nice read too, and sums up with this:
"In the end, all I can say is this -- at least it wasn't Microsoft." - At least, not yet!

Fascinating stuff. Software history - and web development history - in the making. Geek out. The paranoia and strong emotions just go to show how attached we can get to our tools.

Fire!

I'm bisque firing a load of pots in my electric kiln today - the first time in my new studio. This is one of the things I really wanted in a new house... it was pretty great to just load them into the kiln straight from the shelves with no boxes in between. (I spent a long time packing up greenware and driving it across town to fire; I don't even want to count how many hours I lost to that.) I ran a test firing last weekend and all went well: programming was accurate, pyrometer seemed calibrated, no quirks. I'll be paranoid about it for a while, but I suppose before long this won't even seem noteworthy. My kiln is a size smaller than the ones I'm used to, so I was surprised at how few pots fit into a load -- I'll be firing this thing every week eventually! (Let's hope.)

So, time to go check the kiln. Nice.
