Process is about everything that goes into my pots. As important as conceptual issues are to my work, for me the physical processes are at the center of the day-to-day making of pottery. This includes the desire to make another attempt, improve a form, tweak a glaze -- and the constant curiosity to discover what happens next. I think making pots should be more about process than product, and I hope to reflect that by showing how I work.
My secondary intent here is to share some of what I know about making pots. Potters are an unusual group in their generosity and willingness to give hard-won information with others, and I certainly wouldn't have made it past the difficult early stages without great teachers. If I can pass some of that along to others, it will be a start to repaying their investment. In each section in the menu at the left, you'll find a description and photos about that stage of the making process. I've also included clay body and glaze recipes, many photos, and information about the tools and equipment I use.
