In 2008 I continued firing in two kilns, making two separate but related streams of pots. The range of forms was similar to recent years, with perhaps a bit more emphasis on vases, bottles and lidded jars. In the gas kiln, I did a lot stamped patterns, particularly with my teadust glaze, and developed a new matte yellow. I also starting experimenting with porcelain. In the salt/soda kiln, I continued going after heavily-salted effects on bare clay or flashing slips, while also working on a range of glazes. The decorative possibilities in that kiln continue to be really exciting, and I seem to be gravitating towards lots of stripes and dots. |
