September 26, 2003

Here's a series of kiln unloading photos from what ended up being the last firing in the DPU Soda Cat. (The shed at the new art center is finally complete, so this one was scavenged for bricks.)

My only chance at a soda firing before my show at the Gallery in October, and everything turned out great - I put a lot of good bisqueware in, and a lot of good pots came out. With all the variables of soda firing, it's quite satisfying to have a good firing when I needed one.

Relieved success.
Some underglaze brushwork turned out really well.
Less soda this time made for drier surfaces.
Stacked with space for vapor circulation.
A new matte green liner glaze.
My "domino" pattern.
My mother-in-law Judy gets a sneak peak.
I examine each pot as I unload it.
Checking out the new brushwork.
Soda bottle that ended up on the Holiday Sale card.
A good variety of pots.
About 50 small-medium sized pots were in this firing.
Mugs and hanging planters.
The end of an era, albeit a short one...
